Beauport Jubilee Premium
Giclee version of
the aquatint Beauport on display at The Turner Museum.

Beauport is a
French word which translated means Beautiful Port. It
is the title of a J.M.W.Turner watercolor commissioned by one of his wealthiest and best
patrons, Jack Fuller in 1810. Fuller underwrote its aquatint version along with
three other Sussex views. It is believed Fuller may have used them as gifts to his
neighbors - three in the set are house-portraits, the fourth a historic
site going back to 1,066 when the Norman invaders defeated the native Saxons in the battle
of Hastings. Beauport was the seat of General James Murray who named it after Beauport in
Canada where he served as British colonial governor in the 17th century.
The Beauport Jubilee Premium
has a limited edition of 500 plus 25 proofs reserved for the trustees of
the museum; it measures 48cm x 72cm (12x18 inches), somewhat smaller than the
original aquatint.
