Beauport  is a French word which translated means  “Beautiful Port”. It is the title of a J.M.W.Turner watercolor commissioned by one of his wealthiest and best patrons, Jack Fuller in 1810.  Fuller underwrote its aquatint version along with three other Sussex views. It is believed Fuller may have used them as gifts to his neighbors - three in the set are  ‘house-portraits’, the fourth a historic site going back to 1,066 when the Norman invaders defeated the native Saxons in the battle of Hastings. Beauport was the seat of General James Murray who named it after Beauport in Canada where he served as British colonial governor in the 17th century.

The Beauport Jubilee Premium has a limited edition of 500 plus 25 proofs reserved for the trustees of the museum; it measures 48cm x 72cm (12x18 inches), somewhat smaller  than the original aquatint.
